The EU and all 28 member states are committed to phasing out environmentally harmful subsidies, including those to fossil fuels by 2020. However research by the Overseas Development Institute (ODI) indicates that eleven European countries and the EU subsidised by over €1122 billion per year in the years between 2014 and 2016, this includes €4 billion from the EU itself.
